What is insulin potentiation therapy?
Insulin potentiation therapy (IPT) applies low-dose chemotherapy in a simple medical procedure that uses the hormone insulin, followed by glucose, to better deliver drugs to your system and to make them work in a more effective fashion. Smaller doses of drugs are used with fewer or no side effects than standard chemotherapy. This therapy may also use other insulin-related mechanisms, such as detoxification, immune stimulation, or angiogenesis, which is the formation of new blood vessels.
IPT is given to patients in the same way as standard chemotherapy, with the patient resting in a comfortable recliner while the receiving an IV. This treatment takes about 2 hours. The frequency of treatments will vary from patient to patient. For patients who do not want to pursue conventional cancer care, IPT is a viable cancer care alternative.
In IPT, insulin is used to stimulate division in cancer cells. This is done because chemotherapy is more effective when cells are dividing. In this targeted action, only 10 - 15% of standard dose chemotherapy drugs are needed. The procedure targets only cancer cells while leaving normal cells strong and healthy. The benefits of this are that patients can maintain their lifestyle and remain active and vital while the cancer is eradicated.
